VIDEO GVL RACE TEAM 2023
To begin, it's best to describe the GVL Race Team jersey in Givelo style, from the concept and the deep thought behind the collection. As a brand born in Medellín, we can't help but be deeply connected to cycling and its roots. In this city, cycling is part of the daily life of its inhabitants. The environment, culture, and climate make cycling a frequent activity and a space where community is built.
At Givelo, we want to support the cyclists emerging from this city, who are passionate about cycling and, regardless of the type of cyclists they are (amateurs or professionals), we seek to connect with those who share common principles with the brand. The GVL Race Team is made up of cyclists who share the desire to carry a pure and true sense of the sport. Each member with their genuine personality and full-time professions, balancing their life with the desire to take their passion for cycling to the next level.
Cyclists who share Givelo's vision of dressing the cycling world with technically crafted garments, accompanied by strong ideation to create disruption in the market. This is how the GVL RT was born, a group of ordinary people who have a special discipline, who have no other expectations than to pedal hard and push the limits of their passion (aligned with Givelo's slogan "Don't Settle"). The current design of the 2023 jersey came from what Givelo considers "acid racing" cycling competitions. We took the "acid" part literally and, with the help of AI, created a texture that shows real acid burns on the fabric. This texture was combined with Givelo's special design stamp, and a two-color jersey emerged that represents that "acid racing" feeling.

Let's move on to the GVL RT video... The concept was to convey the true emotion of the GVL riders and merge it with the urban reality of Medellín. We are very aware that the Givelo brand is no longer just in Colombia, but all over the world, and it is an honor to showcase our roots with the support of the GVL RT to the global cycling community. We were clear that there was only one location option for the shoot and that was in our own city.
This production was one of the toughest we've had so far, battling relentlessly with weather conditions and rescheduling the shoot twice to get all the content we needed. Initially, the idea was to shoot the production in one afternoon and one night, starting at sunset and continuing all night until we were happy with everything we had. In reality, the shoot began before we hit the streets, inside a local workshop provided by one of the team's sponsors, Giant. This space gave us the opportunity to pause from what can be quite a hectic city and focus on filming each rider. We wanted the film to be for the riders as much as for the brand, so it had to be personal, and in the small workshop area we were able to get up close and talk directly with each of them.

Filming began a week later at 3:00 am, so early that it was even hard for a cyclist to get out of bed; this time at a new location where we could move around the city. Almost all the cyclists arrived on their bikes, crossing the city, passing through Medellín's very lively nightlife. This was not part of the filming, but the stark contrast in lifestyles between a citizen and a GVL cyclist who gets on his bike before 3:00 am is a sample of what these cyclists sacrifice. Of course, just as we started shooting, it started to rain again, which forced us into a local tunnel along the highway. Three laps later, on our improvised circuit, the rain began to subside, and we quickly collected the GVL RT team and equipment to get to our final location.

Now in the heart of Medellín, we found ourselves in the early morning hours, when the nightlife has died down and the city rests briefly before businesses and workers begin their day. The excitement was palpable within the team, as we were now fully focused and busy on the streets, almost to ourselves. The morning felt unusually cold for a city as tropical as Medellín. The morning chill was more than evident, especially since the cyclists had already gotten wet earlier, but with a quick stop, an unlimited supply of coffee, and a few new pairs of socks, we quickly continued filming.
Filming continued against the clock to shoot a good number of scenes, stopping only occasionally to check content before the first hints of dawn appeared. Working with cyclists made things much easier for us. But the beginning of the day knows no brakes. The streets became busier and the light began to change, which meant we had to relax and take the last photography and video shots. The team had shot a huge amount of content, which when edited might not seem like much, but it was exactly what we needed to create an energetic short film.

Footnote:
As the world of cycling merges with fashion, this shoot provided us with an opportunity to do our part but also add another step to this evolving industry. These are real riders, with real stories, making a team that aims to disrupt the local cycling scene and bring some acid racing to it. Cycling is what it is here (Colombia), thanks to riders like those on the GVL team. The dedication and grit these riders show is what drives a brand like Givelo to go further and never settle. This "real" step to the industry is what motivates us, and as the team would say: "On the verge of chaos, we thrive."
